| To maintain local populations of the Siberian flying squirrel Pteromys volans in restricted small habitats, it is necessary to understand their nesting and food biology. Communal nesting of P. volans is well documented in the Eurasian continent, but the details of this behavior have been poorly investigated in Japan. We investigated a group composition of P. volans in Hokkaido, Japan. The mean numbers of individuals using each nest box and tree cavity were 2.17 and 2.44, respectively. Although each female had its own exclusive home range, communal nesting composed by two females was observed in nest boxes. | 本研究では，北海道十勝地域において頻繁にロードキルが発生しているアカギツネVulpes vulpes（以下キツネ）を対象に，北海道開発局が収集した国道におけるロードキルデータを用いて，その発生数が道路の交通量や道路周辺の景観構造およびエゾシカ（Cervus nippon yesoensis，以下シカ）の駆除・狩猟から受ける影響を検討した．2000～2009年のキツネの国道におけるロードキルデータを2つの季節に分け，国道を2 km毎に区切ったトランセクト内のロードキル発生数を目的変数とした一般化線形モデルによる解析を行った．考慮した影響要因は，トランセクト内の平均交通量，トランセクトの中心から半径1 km内に含まれる市街地，草地，農耕地，森林の面積率，河川総延長，景観の多様度指数，シカの平均駆除数，平均狩猟数，シカの平均生息密度指標である．その結果，産仔・育仔期（3月～8月）のキツネのロードキル発生数は局所的な交通量とともに増加したがある一定の交通量を超えると減少し，さらに道路周辺に草地が多くシカの狩猟数が多い場所で多くなった．分散・交尾期（9月～2月）のキツネのロードキル発生数は景観の多様度指数が高く，かつシカの密度指標が低い場所で多かった．本研究により，十勝におけるキツネのロードキル発生数と関係のある要因は季節によって異なることが示され，またキツネと景観の多様度との関係性やキツネによるシカ狩猟残滓利用の可能性，シカがキツネへ与える間接効果の可能性などキツネの生態に関するさまざまな仮説が提示された． |

| Describing the interactions among cavity breeders is key to understanding their breeding ecology. In this study the temporal difference in cavity use between the great tit, Parus major (Linnaeus, 1758) and the small Japanese field mice, Apodemus argenteus (Temminck, 1845) is investigated, as a first step for clarifying the interaction between bird and mammal cavity breeders. Forty-seven nest boxes were installed on tree trunks in two urban forests of Hokkaido Island, Japan, and the breeding nests of tits and mice were found in 34 and 11 boxes, respectively. | In Obihiro City, the number of red squirrel, Sciurus vulgaris o ientis, death due to traffic accidents was large. Therefore, a number of measures have been taken to prevent these numerous traffic accidents. The “Red Squirrel Traffic Accident Map” was prepared based on data collected by citizen group and our laboratory of Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Based on this map, warning sign posts indicating “Squirrel Crossing” were installed in 18 locations within the city. | 本研究はニホンモモンガPteromys momongaの生息に必須な資源であると考えられる樹洞について，スギCryptomeria japonicaやヒノキChamaecyparis obtusaの利用実態を明らかにすることを目的とした．本種の営巣確認を2005年3月から2010年4月の間に神奈川県丹沢山地の針広混交林で行った．その結果，ニホンモモンガの営巣は広葉樹の樹洞木20本のうち1本，針葉樹の樹洞木23本（スギ21本，ヒノキ2本）のうち8本で確認され，営巣のために針葉樹の樹洞木を多く利用していることが明らかになった．また針葉樹の営巣木はすべてスギであった．スギ・ヒノキにおける営巣木の樹高，胸高直径および樹洞の高さはそれぞれ25.6±3.7（平均±SD）m，50.3±11.2 cmおよび6.2±0.6 mで，営巣が確認されなかった樹洞木との間に有意差は認められなかった． |

| 1.北海道十勝管内の２か所の小学校で，建物の周辺環境（植生や人工建造物），鳥類相と衝突死する鳥類の個体数の関係を調べるため，1994年６月から12月まで調査を行なった．調査を行なった新得町立屈足小学校と佐幌小学校はガラスを多用した同型の体育館を有していた． 2.ラインセンサスの結果，屈足小学校では25種498個体，佐幌小学校では25種516個体の鳥類が観察された．屈足小学校では，スズメが最も多く（178個体. 2000. 35.7％），次いでコムクドリ（58個体. 2000. 11.6％），アオジ（53個体. 2000. 10.6％），ハクセキレイ（50個体. 2000. 10.0％）が多かった．佐幌小学校ではスズメ（152個体. 2000. 29.5％）が最も多く，次いでシメ（78個体. 2000. 15.1％）が多かった． 3.佐幌小学校では10種26個体のガラス衝突した鳥類が拾得されたが，屈足小学校では１個体のみであった．衝突死が最も多い鳥類はシメで11個体（40.7％）であった．死亡した鳥類はほとんど（85.2％）が幼鳥であった． 4.佐幌小学校の周辺では，巣立ちしたシメの幼鳥の群れが採食するのがしばしば観察された．また，佐幌小学校にはスズメ類やムクドリ類のための巣箱も架設されており，ホオジロ類が好むやぶ地も備わっていた． 5.両校間の衝突死個体数の差は，特にシメなどの建物周辺で繁殖，採餌する鳥類の個体数の違いに起因すると思われた． |
